Cause Symbols

Cause Symbol

We tried to design a symbol that looked eco-friendly as well as had a strong relation to Sydney. We chose to use a strong Sydney icon, the Opera House, and use green as a colour aswell as make the parts of the Sydney Opera house look likes leaves.

Symbol #1

It is a simple design with limited contrast in colour, the use of only two different shades of green, keeps its simplicity. It clearly represents aspects of the Opera House as well as giving an environmental feel with the shape of the points and representing the water, by constructing a reflecting with a different tone.

Symbol #2

This symbol uses negative space well, as well as having the symbol design inverted in colour, although the use of type is not often used when designing a symbol, it was placed to show application of design.

Symbol #3

This symbol is similar to the first one, but does not replicate a reflection, instead uses different tones to show the different points of the Opera House and is still a simple and elegant symbol design.

Omens & Superstitions

Throughout time there have been many beliefs, reasons, stories, myths and what some people believe to be facts for life. The bad ones, are called omens, the things believed to symbolise a bad occurrence and act as a warning.

We all recognise them to mean something, for example…

Natural Phenomenon of UnNatural Birth.

Tribal Symbol

On Tuesday the 27th of July, my tribe, Justin, Ray and Cherry brainstormed together for the first time as a group.

Our class task was to create a mindmap of our values, who we were and what we stood for as a group, from that mindmap we were to write a paragraph about ourselves, then from the paragraph we were to concise it to a sentence, and from the sentence to one word, and from that one word, create a symbol.

So with our mindmap, we created 4 individual mindmaps of our own values and what we stood for, and who we were, and from those four, compared the similar and same characteristics and aspects made one group one.

From the mindmap we came up with a paragraph, sentence and a word.

Our Paragraph was

” As four individual asian youth design students we stand for equality and fair rights for everyone. We are passionate about creating our own images and making a difference. With out creative minds and imaginations and co-operation we want to make a change for the better.”

Our Sentence was;

“Four Young Asian Designers wanting to leave a creative impacts on the world.”

Our word, was an acronym, Four Asian Designs.

“4AD”

From this we designed our symbol, to be something asian, and also have a design aspect so we chose upon using a bamboo calligraphy pen as our symbol. We came up with a few different ways of expressing this.

Directional Symbols

Directional Symbols, are always conventionally thought of to be just arrows, but there are some symbols that we recognise that do the same thing. Not all directional symbols have to be arrows, they can have their own imagery but we still recognise them as clues that help us reach a solution or destination.Top of a Can. Direction. Hands.
